After a launching the top-end Oasis in April, Amazon has brought back the older Kindle models with a few tweaks. For starters, the base Kindle and Paperwhite are available in white.
Weighing 161g, the refreshed base model is 11% thinner and 16% lighter than the previous generation Kindle. It also features double the storage space at 4GB and is the first Amazon ebook reader to include Bluetooth audio support. The latter makes it easier for visually impaired users to access the VoiceView screen reader without a separate adapter.
On the software side there are a few changes. The UI sports a new personalized home screen showing friend recommendations and integrates a Wish List.
Priced at $79.99, the base Kindle will be sold from 7 July onwards.
