BMW reveals a self-balancing bike concept

October 13, 2016 by Kunal Gangar

Part of BMW’s VISION NEXT 100, the German automaker revealed what will be the bike of the future – a self-balancing motorcycle. As crazy as it sounds, the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 promises to take the ride experience to a new level for seasoned bikers and even novice ones. Interestingly, BMW claims that this bike will make protective gear like helmets a thing of the past!

Since the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 is from the future, the bike is “intelligently connected between rider, bike and the outside world” that makes the overall ride safer and relays all the important information from the bike to the rider via the visor. The visor is a pair of data glasses that spreads through the wearer’s entire field of vision and are controlled by the rider’s eye movements. For instance, looking up or down changes the content that appears and looking straight ahead switches the information off completely. Information is only projected onto the visor on request, or to alert the rider to the fact that action is needed.

Adding to the experience is the gear the superbike is equipped with. Depending on weather conditions and with the help of sensors in the airy suit, it warms or cools the user. Furthermore, at higher speeds, the neck section inflates to provide extra support for the upper vertebrae and improve overall comfort and also delivers navigation instructions via the vibrating elements in the arms and legs.
