Geforce GTX 1060 gets announced for the Indian market

July 8, 2016 by Ankush Mahajan

NVIDIA officially revealed the existence of the Geforce GTX 1060, the mid-range card in the latest Pascal (10XX) series. This announcement comes just two months after the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 were launched worldwide.

Owing to the FinFET 16nm manufacturing process, the GTX 1060 is highly power efficient consuming 120 watts of power using just one 6-pin PCIe power connector. The card will be considerably cheaper than the last generation GTX 980 and yet deliver performance on the same level. Nvidia’s SMP (Simultaneous Multi-Projection) technology has been integrated into various game engines with over 30 titles in active development. This technology allows the card to seamlessly project a single image simultaneously to both eyes which yields three times the VR graphics performance improvement over the previous generation graphic cards.

The GTX 1060 also supports NVIDIA VRWorks, a software developer kit that allows game developers to intertwine what users see, hear and touch with the physical behavior of the environment to sell the VR experience better. Another new addition is NVIDIA Ansel which a game capture tool that lets users modify gameplay shots by changing the vantage point, letting the user point the camera in any direction or capture 360 degree stereo photospheres for viewing with VR headsets.

According to Nvidia, the card is around 15 percent faster and over 75 percent more power efficient than their closest competitor at stock speeds. No prizes for guessing who it is. After all, there are only 2 major graphic card players in the market – AMD and Nvidia.

The GTX 1060 will be sold from 17 July at a price of Rs. 22,999.
