Google Pixel in, Nexus out

October 5, 2016 by Ankush Mahajan

Google officially announced the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones which will replace the Nexus brand. Unlike the former, the Pixel brand is high end and aiming to compete with Apple along with others in terms of pricing. The devices have been developed in collaboration with HTC but Google has the final say on everything – from design to specs.

The Pixel is the smaller of the two using an AMOLED screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. On the other hand, the Pixel XL is larger and more or less identical to the Pixel in terms of specifications. The only differences are the bigger screen, battery and 2K screen resolution. They both use aluminium casing and a half-glass back design.

The fingerprint sensor is located at the back resting on the glass half. Coming to the software front, it will be the first phone with Google Assistant built-in. It is Google’s answer to Apple Siri and for now performance is a mystery. The latest Nougat OS will be powering the device with a few special Pixel-only features.

Google Pixel starts from Rs.57,000 onwards and will be available for pre-order from October 13.
