The Redmi 9 Prime isn’t very different from the Redmi Note 9 which released over 2 weeks ago, although the latter is superior when it comes to performance and photography. However, the Redmi 9 Prime is one of the first smartphones of the Redmi number series to offer some new features for a phone starting in the 10k-range.
The Redmi 9 Prime is equipped with a 6.53” FHD+ display and houses a 5020mAh battery. Along with a ‘Reading Mode 2.0’ the Redmi 9 Prime is also TUV Rheinland low blue light certified, which means it meets the standards to effectively block the blue light emitted by the screen.
Performance-wise, the Redmi 9 Prime is powered by the octa-core MediaTek Helio G80 SoC processor, which can clock up to 2GHz. The large battery coupled with the 18W fast-charge technology does enable the smartphone to perform at higher levels for a longer duration.
When it comes to photography, the Redmi 9 Prime houses a quad-cam setup in the rear, with a 13MP wide-angle main camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle with 118-degree FOV, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. It also houses an 8MP AI Selfie camera in the front. The cameras are equipped with features such as Kaleidoscope, Document Scanner, and Palm Shutter to improve user experience.
The Redmi 9 Prime is integrated with features like AI Face Unlock, Rear Fingerprint Sensor, and its screen – which can be scaled up to a brightness of 400 nits – is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone weighs just under 200 grams and runs on MIUI 11 which is built on Android 10.
The Redmi 9 Prime comes with a 4GB RAM and is available in two variants: one that offers storage of 64GB and the other that offers storage of 128GB, which cost Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 11,999 respectively. The storage on both devices can be expanded to up to 512GB.
The Redmi Prime is available in four colours: Space Blue, Matte Black, Mint Green, and Sunrise Flare and it can be purchased on Amazon, Mi.com, Mi Homes, and Mi Studios.
