Samsonite and Panasonic present a smart, connected suitcase

September 3, 2019 by Ankush Mahajan

Samsonite and Panasonic have partnered up to create a smart travel suitcase for the 24×7 connected traveller. Samsonite’s EVOA Tech suitcase has been equipped with Panasonic’s Seekit Bluetooth Tracker for keeping track of the luggage.

Based on Bluetooth v5.0 technology, the tracker comes with upto 14 functions. These include the Separation Indicator that keeps users informed if their luggage is around and are immediately notified if it gets separated. Next, Bi-directional Tracking helps consumers find their smartphone if the tracker button is pushed two times. Pressing it thrice sends an SOS alert to upto 3 contacts with their GPS location. The Seekit device also comes with a Selfie button for letting users click their selfies. With Proximity Guidance, users are guided towards their baggage while Find your Luggage helps identify their Samsonite luggage by tapping the buzz button on the app. In-app language support is available in Japanese, Korean, Chinese and English.

The EVOA Tech suitcase boasts of a 3-in-1 Smart Lock coming with a TSA-approved fingerprint lock that can record 10 fingerprints at a time, a 3-digit dial lock and USB port. Integrated into the side handle is a weighing scale that shows the weight in kilograms and a button on the side reverses the display direction so it can be read in any orientation. Devices like smartphones can be charged by plugging into the USB port. Further, an anti-theft zipper and aero track suspension wheels have been implemented.

Pricing has yet to be announced but the product will be launched in a phased manner in 18 countries including India.
