Xiaomi debuts Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro

February 14, 2018 by Ankush Mahajan

Xiaomi has launched the latest iterations of the popular Redmi Note series at an event in the capital today. This time around there is a separate Pro model with higher end specifications.

The Note 5 Pro debuts with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor making it the first device globally to be powered by it. The Note 5 series also introduces the currently in trend 18:9 display which has a colour contrast ratio of 1500:1 and 450 nits brightness. The screen offers 12.5% more display area in the same 5.5″ form factor of the older models. However, the trimming of bezels means that physical navigation is gone in place of on screen buttons. Physically both the devices look similar and it’s only the camera setup on the rear that helps distinguish both models.

The Pro implements a rear dual camera setup with a focus on portrait photography housing a 12MP lens with 1.25m pixel, f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP lens with 1.12μm pixel, f/2.0 aperture. On the front is a Sony IMX376 camera with LED selfie light for taking decent snaps even in low light conditions. The regular Note largely inherits the same setup from Note 4 with the difference of an added LED selfie light and larger 1.25μm pixel size.

Redmi Note 5 is priced at Rs.9,999 for 3/32GB and Rs.11,999 for 4/64GB while Redmi Note 5 Pro starts from Rs.13,999 for 4/64GB and Rs.16,999 for 6/64GB. Sold on Flipkart and Mi India online store, the first flash sale begins on 22 February 2018 from 12pm. Offline store availability will be announced soon.
