Xiaomi enters the Indian TV market with Mi TV 4

February 14, 2018 by Ankush Mahajan

In addition to the Note 5 series, Mi has also introduced the Mi TV 4 to India today. It was first unveiled at CES 2017 and went on sale in China last year.

The Television has really thin bezels and a thickness of just 4.9mm at its slimmest point. It sports a 55″ LED display panel with a 4K resolution and basic HDR support. The 60Hz panel has a response time of 8ms and a viewing angle of 178 degrees. It is powered by a 64-bit quad core Amlogic Cortex A53 SoC clocked upto 1.8GHz with Mali-T830 graphics, 2GB RAM and 8GB storage.

The two 8W speakers at the back are duct inverted supporting playback of Dolby and DTS Cinema audio. On the connectivity front there are 3xHDMI 2.0 ports, 1xUSB 3.0, 1xUSB 2.0, ethernet, S/PDIF, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz). A special addition for India is the Patchwall UI that can embed local DTH content along with other local content players into one endless scrolling wall. However, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube are nowhere to be found. The remote control has been highly simplified featuring only 11 buttons.

The Indian model has been changed to embed the speaker and ports at the rear so as to keep costs down. The original model had housed them in the separately sold Mi Bar. Priced at Rs.39,999 for the 55″ model, the Mi TV will be sold on the Mi online store, Flipkart and Mi Home from January 22, 2018. For the initial 3 month period, free 3 months subscription worth Rs.619 to Sony Liv and Hungama Play, Mi IR cable worth Rs.299 and on-site installation worth Rs.1,099 are provided. No word on whether the Mi Bar or 49″ and 65″ models will come to India.
